For many who live here year round the months from November to May are their favourite time of year. It’s certainly quieter but it’s also more authentic, and for those whose work is seasonal. The Winter months are when they have time to slow down and enjoy the lifestyle pursue outdoor activities and enjoy some of the cultural activities on offer.
Here are just some of the events you can expect to find in Menorca’s “quiet” Season:
Menorca Jazz Festival
The Menorca Jazz which runs from late March until late May consists of a series of concerts held both in theatres and open air venues in towns across the island. In addition to various talented local brands the festival draws some national and international names from the world of jazz. This year’s line up includes Dave Mitchell, the Omer Avital Quintet and the Newborn Jazz Quartet.
For those who enjoy live perfomances Mao’s Teatro Principal has a varied programme plays operas, concerts and dance performances throughout the year.
The Orfeon Mahones also has a small theatre where local and international visiting shows are staged. Of particular note is The Merry Widow which will be performed in September.
Mao’s multiplex cinema has six screens where all the latest releases are shown. For those who prefer not to watch dubbed films, original version films are screened on Mondays and Thursdays. Live Operas, Ballets and 3D films are also shown occasionally.
The cooler weather is perfect for getting outdoors whether it be on foot, horseback or by bike. For those who thrive on competition, triathlons, marathons and open water swimming races are organised throughout the year.
Winter storms can generate some decent swells and while most stay warm and dry at home when the weather turns gnarly Menorca’s die-hard surfers will be seen paddling out to catch some waves.
One Punta Prima Day
Off the back of this, One Prima Day a celebration of the sport and lifestyle that goes with it has grown into one of the biggest out-of-season events of the year. Celebrated on 14th & 15th April this year the programme includes talks by surfing champions, sales of equipment and clothing, live music, food trucks and displays by skaters, long-boarders, paddle surfers and wake surfers.
Brunch & Co
Brunch & Co organizes a few events each year designed to bring together creative people from different disciplines to share ideas and enjoy a day outdoors with live music, craft stalls, food trucks and more.
