An appealing alternative to the island’s large-scale beach hotels. This elegant 18th-century urban mansion has been reimagined as a sophisticated boutique hotel – complete with a tranquil patio and outdoor pool, a stylish bistro and a bijou basement spa.
A residential street in the historic centre of Mahón, Menorca’s capital. It’s a minute’s walk from the main shopping area, the market and the Santa Maria church; and a 10-minute stroll downhill brings you to the picturesque port, lined with bars, boutiques and restaurants. Beaches, walking trails and outdoor pursuits are less than a 15-minute drive away. It’s 10 minutes by car from the airport.

Style & character
A subtle sense of glamour infuses every inch of the hotel, from the bold navy blue lounge – where comfortable seating clusters around a glass-fronted log burner – to the soaring arched doors that open onto the walled garden and patio.
It’s a former palacete (small palace or stately home), and has been sensitively modernised to create a restful urban hideaway. Original lofty ceilings, exposed beams and sash windows have been preserved and graciously blended with soothing Farrow & Ball colours, contemporary furniture and sleek bathrooms. Sculptures are dotted throughout the hotel, lending it an artistic edge. If guests take a fancy to any decorative item, from lights and linens to wallpapers, the hotel can help them source their own; the sculptures are available for purchase.
Service & facilities
Below street level is the former cellar with vaulted limestone ceilings; it now houses a small spa comprising a steam room, hot tub and double treatment room, that guests can book by the hour. At the rear of the property a large walled patio provides a shady dining area on one side and a shimmering outdoor pool with deckchairs on the other. There is no street parking in the area and the hotel does not have a car park; guests may use the paid parking 100 metres away.
The multilingual staff is young and friendly and the service is polite and polished at all times.
The 14 rooms vary in size, layout and décor. All offer extremely comfortable beds, crisp linens, luxurious walk-in rain showers and L’Occitane toiletries. In the Cozy [sic] rooms on the top floor guests sleep under pitched roofs – some of which have generous terraces overlooking the patio. On the first floor, rooms are spacious with large sash windows, high-beamed ceilings and, in some, freestanding tubs and original parquet flooring.
All have plenty of natural light, plush soft furnishings and are equipped with lots of amenities, from powerful hairdryers and mosquito repelling devices, to minibars, good reading lights and Menorcan-style straw bags to take to the beach.
Food & drink
A small, well-stocked bar serves a selection of Menorcan wines and other tipples. The bistro focuses on fresh, seasonal produce, sourced from the local market. Light snacks are served at lunch and an à la carte menu is available at dinner. Occasionally, a five-course tasting menu is also offered in the evenings. The cuisine is largely Mediterranean in style but also includes a few Asian-inspired options: think stuffed courgette flowers, chicken curry, and tuna tataki with a beetrot tartare. All are creatively conceived and daintily presented, although flavours can lack a little punch at times.
Breakfasts consist of a self-service spread of local cheeses, cold cuts, fruit, cereals and pastries, as well as fresh bread, eggs cooked any-which-way and a range of teas, coffees and orange juice.
Value for money
Double rooms from €150 (£131) in low season; and from €300 (£263) in high. Breakfast included. Free Wi-Fi.
